Wisma Habibie & Ainun as an Event Venue: From Historic House to International Hybrid Event
What if a historic house owned by B.J. Habibie, the 3rd President of the Republic of Indonesia, was transformed into an international event venue?
Not a convention hall. Not a hotel ballroom. Wisma Habibie & Ainun offers a different atmosphere, story, and experience.
This house has been the residence of B.J. Habibie and Hasri Ainun since 1976. Today, its spaces are also used for various professional activities, including forums, meetings, and events.
On 19 August 2026, Global Events Jakarta brought an international hybrid event into this historic venue.
From the Library as the main room, the Pendopo as a breakout room, to the Intellectual Garden for dining, each area required a different event management approach.

Library: 5,000 Books as the Main Room
One of the most interesting spaces is the Library.
This library contains approximately 5,000 books in various languages, including German.
Inside, visitors can also find miniature models of the N250 and CN235 aircraft, which represent Habibie’s contribution to technology and aviation.
The Library was established on 11 August 2009, coinciding with Ainun’s final birthday before her passing.
Today, the Library can also be used for various professional activities.

For this event managed by Global Events Jakarta, the room was transformed into the main room with a hybrid event setup.
Inside the room, #GlobalEventsCrew worked at the FOH area to manage YouTube and Zoom live streaming, while also handling audio and camera operations throughout the event.

Global Events Jakarta also prepared a Simultaneous Interpretation System (SIS) because the event was conducted bilingually.
Ms. Diba and Ms. Fathia worked as interpreters from the interpretation booth. Their interpretation audio was also integrated into Zoom, allowing both onsite and online participants to follow the session in their preferred language.

Pendopo: From Family Tennis Court to State Guest Reception Area
The Pendopo at Wisma Habibie & Ainun also carries an interesting story.
Originally, this area was a family tennis court. Around 1992, the area was transformed into a Pendopo.
The Pendopo also became a space for welcoming important guests and state guests.
Habibie and Ginandjar Kartasasmita also used this space to prepare the transition of power. The meeting took place one day before Habibie was inaugurated as the 3rd President of the Republic of Indonesia.
For this event, the Pendopo was used as one of the breakout rooms. Since participants needed to move between rooms, maintaining a smooth participant flow was an important part of the event operation.
In this room, #GlobalEventsCrew was also stationed as an operator. Ms. Fathia supported the interpretation requirements to ensure the session ran smoothly.

Intellectual Garden: Outdoor Dining Area
Outside the main building, there is the Intellectual Garden.
This area is associated with Habibie’s habit of walking while reflecting and thinking. The garden also features intellectual symbols, including The Thinker and Ganesha statues.
During this event, the area was used for outdoor dining and participant interaction.
The open-air setting provided a different experience after participants completed the main sessions.
Rasya and Theo helped manage participant flow to ensure smooth movement and comfortable seating arrangements. This allowed participants to enjoy their lunch while having opportunities for networking.

When a Historic Venue Becomes a Hybrid Event Venue
Today, Wisma Habibie & Ainun is not only used for historical tours.
Several spaces can also accommodate forums, press conferences, bilateral meetings, product launches, intimate gatherings, and other professional events.
Therefore, this venue can support various professional event needs.
However, managing an event in a historic venue requires a different approach compared to a conventional convention hall.
Each space has its own character and function. Therefore, event management needs to carefully adjust the layout, participant flow, and technical setup.
For the 19 August 2026 event, Global Events Jakarta managed one main session and two breakout rooms. The event was also delivered in a hybrid event format.
The team prepared VEO setup on location and hybrid live streaming setup to maintain a connection between onsite and online participants.
In addition, Global Events Jakarta handled MC, registration, VIP usher, onsite photographers, and videographers.
Each service had its own role. However, all teams worked together through one integrated workflow.
